encourage all Opticians serving the public in Texas to become a Registered
Optician and maintain their TDSHS Registered Opticians status.

ROATx Activity List
March
1st - The
first day that a
participant may pay the $1500 tuition for the comprehensive Advanced Ophthalmic
Optics and Refraction course to be held Mid June 2008 and it is
when the forty hour away study / distance learning portion of the course begins.
April
2nd - Is the Cut off to pre-register for the annual
convention at the reduced half price rate for current members ($79 vs. $159) and
reserve your room at the special convention rate ($122 per night plus tax) for 2008
in San Antonio. Call (800) 223-4361 to

May 2nd-
NAIT students are invited to attend a hands-on lab and pre-Final Exam
preparation session in San Antonio at the Menger Hotel from 9 AM - 3 PM on the
Friday before the convention.

3rd and 4th -
The 7th Annual ROATx Convention and
Education Seminar.

ATTEND OUR Pre-ABO EXAM COURSE DURING THIS
CONVENTIONthe expansion of our education offerings through out the nation,
and the
June
1st (Sunday 1 PM - 4 PM)- NAIT
Final Exam and Mid-Term will be held through out Texas.
June 7th- Sustaining Members are invited to an
annual planning and leadership meeting in Fort Worth at 5000 Collinwood (Go to
www.mapquest.com for directions).
This meeting will be from 2 PM until at least 6 PM and will cover topics such as
(1) a new state wide community service project we are calling "Save the
Children's Sight" that partners ROATx Certified Vision Screeners with the
LIONS Clubs of Texas to help the one, two, three, and four year old children of
Texas, (2) we will also finalize plans of what we need to do to help the
Opticians of Texas and America be able to build on their Optical Science
education, and (3) what we need to do NOW to prepare for the next session
of the Texas State Legislature. Call B J Rust for directions to his office in
Fort Worth. We need your input and help to make next year the best year
ever.

Class
room portion of the "Comprehensive
Advanced Ophthalmics and Refraction
Course"
will be offered in Harlingen Texas. The dead line to register for this course is
March 15th, 2008.
This excellent course requires 100+ hours of study for which
you will receive documentation for 48

Advanced Level-3 ABO and/or NCLE, and/or JCAHPO Type A. Make
your $150.00 refundable deposit today to hold your placement. The cost
of the course, which includes a copy of the "Virtual Phoroptor CD" (a
$350 value),
is $1500 for
non-members and
$1200 for ROATx members (a 20% discount). If you already own a copy of the
Virtual Phoroptor CD, you will be given credit towards the cost of this

ROATx Certified Instructors of Refraction, assisted by members from our 2005
class of certified refractionists, have been invited for the fifth consecutive
year to serve as guest instructors at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center in Dallas. They will be helping the Ophthalmology residents learn
the skill of refraction.

written and practical examination in order to become a "ROATx
Certified Instructor of Refraction" will be able to do so.
August
10th -
The ROATx Certified
